Year of Homecoming 2009
Dear Bandleader
Year of Homecoming 2009
You will be aware that South Ayrshire Council has within its domain, Alloway, the birthplace of Robert Burns, the National Bard. Next year is the 250th Anniversary of the Birth of Robert Burns and the Year of the Homecoming in Scotland when celebrations and events will take place to encourage ex-pats and visitors to return to, or visit Scotland.
We are proposing to highlight the commencement of the year’s events with a parade of bands through Ayr Town Centre. In return for marching approximately 1.3 miles, each band will be paid £50. In addition, there will be a Provost’s Trophy, together with £1000 cash prize, for the best marching band. The parade is scheduled to take place at noon on Saturday 24th January.
To enable us to plan the parade, I would like to invite your Band to take part by requesting that you complete the enclosed form and return to the Events Co-ordinator as indicated. The number of bands marching will be limited, so you should ensure that your entry form is submitted in good time .
I am sure you will agree that the parade will provide a spectacle and enhance the occasion of the Homecoming both for participants and spectators alike.
Yours sincerely
Nancy Neil
Events Co-ordinator
